Discovering the Trans Pennine Trail: A Safe Haven for My Son and Me
As a young mum, finding a safe and enjoyable place for my son to explore is always a top priority. That’s why I absolutely love the Trans Pennine Trail. It’s right on our doorstep in Penistone, it’s free, and it offers so much for both of us.
During my lunch breaks, I often take a walk along the Trail either alone or with my family and friends. It’s a great way to clear my mind and get some fresh air. When I want to keep fit, the Trail provides a safe place for me to run. I can easily and safely access our local town as well as use the Trail to explore further afield taking in other local routes nearby. From Penistone, we have the option to head towards Dunford Bridge or towards Penistone and Oxspring, offering a variety of beautiful paths to explore.
But the best part is that it’s a safe place for my young son, Harry, to explore. He’s an active bundle of joy, and the Trail is the perfect
spot for him to plod along or for us to take him in the pram or trike.
We love being out in all weathers, capturing the beauty of the Trail during all the seasons. Whether it’s the vibrant colours of autumn, the crisp air of winter, the blooming flowers of spring, or the warm sunshine of summer, the Trail never fails to amaze us.

The physical health benefits of using the Trail are obvious. Walking, running, and cycling are great ways to stay fit and healthy. But what I love most are the mental health benefits. Spending time in nature helps me to de-stress and unwind. The peaceful surroundings and the beauty of the Trail provide a much-needed escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It’s a place where I can clear my mind, reflect, and find a sense of calm.
If you haven’t been out on the Trail before, you’re really missing out. It’s a wonderful place for families, individuals, and anyone who loves nature and the outdoors. The Trans Pennine Trail has become our safe haven, and I couldn’t be more grateful for it.
