Celebrating Excellence at the Remarkable East Yorkshire Tourism Awards

What a night we had at the Remarkable East Yorkshire Tourism Awards (REYTAs), held at Connexin Live in Hull  on Wednesday! I was lucky to join fellow members of the Trans Pennine Trail (TPT) Partnership as we celebrated the very best of Hull and East Yorkshire’s vibrant visitor economy.

Now in its 15th year, the REYTAs shine a spotlight on the people, places, and projects that make the region such a remarkable destination. This year, the Eastern section of the TPT was a proud finalist in the Remarkable Regenerative Tourism category in recognition of our ongoing commitment to sustainable travel, community connection, and environmental stewardship.

The evening was hosted by award-winning Hull comedian, actress, and writer, Amy Gledhill and we were pleased to hear from Chris Blacksell – Chair of Visit Hull and East Yorkshire Advisory Board, and Lady Victoria Borwick, Chair of Visit England, who both shared inspiring words about the region’s achievements.

For me, the evening was more than just an awards ceremony though – it was a chance to connect with our TPT partners who share a passion for making a positive impact.

Sitting alongside TPT Partnership Chair John Wilson and his wife Julie, local Councillors, Council officers, and Friends of the TPT, I was reminded of the power of collaboration. The conversations, laughter and shared stories reinforced just how much we can achieve when we work together.

Thanks to Hull Councillors, Cllr Paul Harper and wife Christine, Cllr Charles Quinn, East Riding Councillor, Cllr Eliza Whittaker and mum, Margaret, TPT Chair, John Wilson and wife Julie, Council officers, Adam Hardy (East Riding) and Allan Davidson (Hull), and Eastern Friends Trustee, Malcolm Revell for joining us and making the evening such an enjoyable one.

The REYTAs are renowned for their warm hospitality, and this year was no exception. The evening flowed seamlessly, with the awards being presented between courses, allowing guests to enjoy both the food and the excitement of the ceremony. The atmosphere was lively and convivial, as each course provided a perfect pause for conversation, celebration, and anticipation before the next set of winners was announced. It was a wonderful blend of conversation and recognition while eating, making the night very special for everyone involved.

The standard of entries this year was truly exceptional and while we didn’t take home the trophy, we were honoured to stand alongside so many inspiring finalists.

Congratulations to Gemini Chocolate who were the worthy winners of our category, and to all the night’s other winners and finalists – your achievements are a testament to the amazing work happening across Hull and East Yorkshire.

The real reward for the TPT, is the impact we make together. The TPT Partnership’s recognition at the REYTAs is a testament to the strength and spirit of our collaboration. From Local Authority partners and volunteer groups to supporters and communities, everyone plays a part in making the Trail a beacon of regenerative tourism, right across the North of England.

Travelling to Hull for the Awards gave me the perfect chance to explore the Trans Pennine Trail route through the city before the ceremony. It was a fantastic chance to get familiar with the local section and capture plenty of photos to showcase this fascinating section of the Trail to the wider TPT community – stay tuned to our Facebook and Instagram social media pages for a glimpse of this hidden gem.
