Details of problems affecting the route between Southport and Penistone
Sefton
Coast Road - Due to adverse weather conditions flooding is still an issue along this section of the Trail. The drainage outlets have been cleared but the ground water levels remain high and the extent of the Coastal Road affected has increased. This is impeding Trail users along this section but we ask for your patience and understanding during these difficult conditions. Sefton Council is continuing with its efforts to manage the situation and with freezing weather expected reviews of the traffic management is on going. We will continue to update the information when available.. Updated 15th January 2013.
Mad Dog Fun Run - On the 10th Feb (Sunday) between 7:30 am and 12 noon access to the sSouthport Seamark could berestricted to accommodate the local Mad Dog 10k Fun Run. The final leg of the Trail, between Weld Road and the Seamark will be subject to a temporary road closure due to two races in the morning. However there will be the opportunity for Trail users to get access via staff on site managing the traffic/closure - providing the way is clear of runners. Updated 21st January 2013
West Lancs
Moss Lane Bridge - There will be some bridge repairs carried out on Moss Lane Bridge, near Fine Jane pumping station (SD329083). There will be a scaffold erected around the bridge but the route will remain unobstructed. The works are due to begin on the 20th of February 2013 and will last 8 weeks. Updated 7th January 2013
Warrington
Ferry Tavern - The contractor has requested that the start date be put back a week to Monday 18th February due to adverse weather conditions. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. Information boards will be put up on site next week indicating this at either end of the works.
Manchester
Metrolink works are still taking place throughout Manchester. Trail users are asked to be mindful of all diversions.
Peak District National Park
National Grid Works at Dunford Bridge and Woodhead - works underway to replace the existing high voltage cables that run through Woodhead Tunnels. Please be mindful of works when using this section. Updated 7th January 2013
Woodhead Pass - As a result of recent snowfalls users are warned that sections of the Trail are in places difficult to negotiate, in particular the section west of Millhouse Green over to Dunford Bridge then Windle Edge over the pass into Woodhead are almost impassable in places due to drifting snow. Sections through Penistone towards Thurlstone and beyond are very icy. Users of the Trail are advised to ensure they are correctly equipped if they are heading out on the Trail, with suitable footwear and appropriate warm clothing. In the event of an accident call 999 ask for the Polic and then Mountain Rescue. (Updated 28th March 2013)
