We are delighted that in a public vote, the Trans Pennine Trail won Amazing Space category at the National Lottery Awards 2006.
Trans Pennine Trail Officer Les Ford and Robin Norbury Chair of the Project received the Award from Linda Barker at a special BBC 1 programme 'Everyone's a Winner', to celebrate National Lottery Day on Saturday 23 September.
Accepting the National Lottery Amazing Space Award on behalf of The Trans Pennine Trail, Les Ford, Project Officer, said:
“We are absolutely delighted to receive this National Lottery Award in recognition of the Trans Pennine Trail being an Amazing Space. Winning this award is a great way for us to thank all our local authority partners, staff, volunteers, funders and the community for all their commitment to the Trans Pennine Trail project and we are very proud. Thanks to Lottery funding we have a fantastic recreational route which generations to come will use and enjoy.”
We'd also like to say a massive thank you to everyone who took the time to vote and help us win such a special award.
The TPT beat off strong competition from a pioneering youth drop-in centre, the Unique Coffee Bar and the Portsmouth Harbour development to win the Award.
The Trail opened in 2001 thanks to £6.4 million of Lottery funding from the Millennium Commission. The National Lottery Awards recognise the hard work and dedication of people who use Lottery funding to make a difference to communities across the UK. Since The National Lottery began in 1994, more than £18.6 billion has been raised and over 240,000 grants given out across arts, sport, heritage, charities, health, education and the environment.
