I thought you may like to know how my daughter Tamara and myself passed a few days through the summer  holidays.

tamaraWe decided to cycle from Stocksbridge to Hull. Tamara is only 10 years old and she never complained the whole way there. (In fact she talked so much Its a wonder I didnt have earache when we got home). We covered 97 miles according to the Trans Pennine Trail Maps.

The Trail is easy to follow and is mainly pathways, old railway line routes and Tow paths with a few quite back roads thrown in for good measure. The hardest part for us was getting from Stocksbridge to Wortley and from then on the route was more or less flat all the way.

> People who met us on the way were great, friendly and helpful, most thought we were mad but all of them thought Tamara was fantastic. Amongst the people we met were a 87 year old man called Les, that could chop trees for England.( He had a 55' chest you know!) and we were fed and watered by a lovely couple called John and Bernice who were celebarting their 47th wedding Anniversary.

We camped and made use of the local pubs. The wildlife was non stop.(Foxes.rabbits squirrels, geese swans, ducks not to mention all the different kind of sheep and cattle. The countryside was varied and beautiful with lots of railway crossings and canal locks to deal with.

When we had finished, we took the Train from Hull to Sheffield.( Local services are ok for a few cycles).

It was a very enjojable and cheap few days that kept us well entertained. Even the poor weather didn't bother us.

Thank you very much to the people of the TPT who have sign posted the trail so well.(We did get lost a few times though so we probably did well over 100 miles).

David Mell.
