  Practical Information - Route Updates

From time to time sections of the Trans Pennine Trail may need to be diverted or even closed due to maintenance or development works.

We do try to keep these to a minimum and for a short a time as possible.

Current Diversions and Closures

Aftermath of Flooding during 2007 and 2008 - the severe weather experienced across Britain badly affected many sections of the Trans Pennine Trail. The most seriously effected sections were in South Yorkshire (Sheffield, Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham districts). Repairs have been  and continue to be carried out as and when funding is available.  The Trail is open, but some sections are rougher than they should be but still passable with care and one section in Leeds still has a diversion route in place. Full details of these are listed in under the relevant areas.

West - problems on the route between Southport and Penistone.

Central - details of problems affecting the coast to coast route between Penistone and RSPB Old Moor (east of Barnsley) and on the north-south Leeds to Chesterfield route.

East - problems on the route between RSPB Old Moor (east of Barnsley) and Hornsea.
